Mission trips are not merely a trip. They are a assignment to fulfill God's will. Every day that we have is a gift from God. God has given each of us a task, and we must acknowledge that there is an adversary trying to undermine it. We must fight for the purpose we are assigned. The battling happens through our prayer as mentioned in II Corinthians 10:4: “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds.” Your life and the lives of others are positively impacted when you complete your assignment.

II Corinthians 4:7 highlights how it is undeniable that when God uses us as His vessels to do His work, it can only be God because our natural abilities are weak. “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.” When you die to your flesh, that type of surrender allows God to work through you, so you can then do God’s work in someone else’s life, as stated in II Corinthians 4:12: “So then death is working in us, but life in you.” When you show God's love in situations that defy logic, like showing kindness to someone who mistreated you, it leaves others perplexed and wondering how you overcame that. That is an example of dying to your flesh. In exchange for surrendering your life to the Lord, He bestows His peace, His purpose, and His Holy Spirit upon you.

In Luke 18, we learn of the story of a woman in need of justice from an unfair judge. The lady persisted in her request, so the judge, who had no fear of either God or man, folded and granted it, saying, "Yet because this widow troubles me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me." How much more will God react when we consistently turn to him if an unfair judge acts in this manner? Once we demonstrate our trust in God, He promises to respond quickly. “I tell you that He will avenge them speedily.” (Luke 18:8)

The enemy wants you to think your prayers are ineffective. If he can convince you that your prayers are useless, he can deter you from prayer. Your prayers are powerful and even more powerful when you pray in unity with other believers. James 5:16 illuminates the power of our prayers and the potency of praying consistently, expecting God to answer because we are His children: “Confess your trespasses to one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” Scripture tells us in James 5:17 about an ordinary man named Elijah who prayed to God to stave off the rain. After that prayer, there was no rain for three and a half years, and it did not rain again until he prayed for the rain to return.

Four things to pray over those on mission trips:
Boldness and clear speaking of the gospel.
Ephesians 6:18-19
Safety and protection.
II Thessalonians 3:1-2
Open doors in relationships and divine connections.
Colossians 4:3
That we would overcome challenges.
II Corinthians 1:8-11
