Jesus not only purchased our salvation on the cross but also our healing. Hearing is the source of faith, and faith is the source of healing.
Luke 10:8-9 tells us about a time when Jesus sent out witnesses and gave instructions to His disciples as He sent them out in pairs to towns He planned to visit. He reminds them that the harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Christians are called to travel the world and share the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Disciples are told to graciously accept whatever food and shelter local welcoming hosts provide. When you bless others, you are also blessed. The mission combines physical care (healing the sick) with spiritual proclamation (announcing God's nearness). When you have a strong faith, the authority within you is the kingdom of God. A sign of the kingdom is healing, and according to Mark 16:17 there are signs that follow those who believe. It is about the manifestation of God's power.
The witnesses that Jesus had sent out that are referenced in Luke 10 were thrilled about what the Lord did and that He reminded them that His presence was near. They operated in the belief of having the authority from God. Jesus expressed this is about spiritual warfare, and God has given us authority over the enemy. He uses us as a vessel to release His power. The key to healing, power, and salvation is your belief and believing what the word says.
There were 2 people in scripture that Jesus marveled at their faith. They were people who believed He had authority to heal.
A Roman military officer (centurion) asks Jesus in Capernaum to heal his paralyzed servant. He had the opportunity to have Jesus come to his house, but he expressed deep humility and extraordinary faith by stating that Jesus only needed to "say the word" for his servant to be healed. Jesus marveled because He said none of His people who were a part of Jesus’ tribe had faith as great as this man who wasn’t saved. Jesus was blown away by the man's faith. This man hadn't done anything to be worthy, he simply believed. Matthew 8:5-13 reminds us that there is nothing we can do to earn salvation; we are saved when we believe.
Matthew 15:22-28 is the testimony of a Canaanite (Gentile) woman who begs Jesus to heal her demon-possessed daughter. Despite initial silence, pushback from His disciples, and Jesus stating He was sent only to Israel, her persistent faith and humble reply convinced Jesus to heal her daughter instantly. Jesus knew His assignment was to minister to all lost sheep. This woman had such enormous faith and was desperate for her daughter to be healed. Because of her faith, Jesus healed her daughter.
Disease and illness are caused by Satan, not by God. The creator of life is God. We receive this confirmation in Acts 10:38, “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with Him.”
Jesus healed those who were sick and afflicted by the enemy. Luke 13:10-16 is an example of when He healed a crippled woman in a synagogue on the Sabbath. The enemy had bound this woman for 18 years. When the synagogue leader criticizes Him for working on the holy day, Jesus rebukes the leaders as hypocrites, pointing out that they untie and water their farm animals on the Sabbath, how much more was it right to free the suffering woman. Because Jesus had authority over the enemy’s power, He healed her. The key to healing is believing we have authority over the enemy. When we don’t understand the authority that we have been given, we operate on a lower level.
“The LORD makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him.” - Psalms 37:23. The Lord actively leads and establishes the daily path of a person who seeks to live righteously. God takes personal joy in the journey and obedience of His faithful followers. God has given each of us an assignment, and once our assignment is finished, He calls us back home. We want to declare over our life that we will not have premature death and use our faith and authority to declare this. Life and death are in the power of the tongue.
